サービスって英語？ Complimentary

English version comes after Japanese.

日本だと「これサービスね」っておまけがつくことがありますが、本来英語の「サービス(service)」って「無料」という意味ではありません。無料の意味での「サービス」は英語だと「complimentary」とか「free of charge」とか。海外ホテルで部屋にボトルウォーターが置いてあって「Complimentary」と書いてあったら無料です。

In Japan we often use the word "service" as "free of charge". During your stay in Japan, if you find the word "サービス"(service) somewhere, it most likely means "free of charge". For example, "ご飯おかわりサービス" means the rice refill is free of charge.
