English version comes after Japanese.
英語で「マンション」っていうと大邸宅のことを指します。ディズニーランドに「ホーンテッドマンション」ってあるでしょ。ああいうお屋敷のこと。「私はマンション住まいです」という場合はこんな感じ。
I live in an apartment. (賃貸)
I live in a condominium. (分譲) アクセントは「ミ」を強く。
写真みたいな鉄骨の壁が薄い「アパート」って感覚は英語ではイメージしにくいかも？とはいえ、最近ニューヨークのような大都会では家賃高騰で日本のワンルームみたいな部屋もあるそうなので、かつて「日本人はウサギ小屋に住んでる」と笑ったアメリカ人も笑えなくなってるんでしょう。
If you hear a Japanese person saying s/he lives in a "mansion", s/he lives in a condominium or an apartment. In Japan, we generally call condominium/apartment "MANSION". If somebody says that s/he lives in an "APARTMENT", then it could be a smaller room in a few storey building.(as shown on the photo) Younger generation tend to live in a small apartment about 20㎡ (about 215ft²). American people used to laugh at Japanese people living in a tiny apartment but I hear there're tiny apartments in New York nowadays.
