I don't see simple fried chicken like Japanese KARA-AGE outside Japan. KARA-AGE (pronounced like kar-lar-agai) is somewhat different from fried chicken. Can we say that KARA-AGE is one of the Japanese cuisine? There's a take-out lunch vendor in my neighbourhood and their KARA-AGE lunch looks like this photo. 5-6 huge pieces of KARA-AGE with rice cost you 500-yen (about US$4.5). I would strongly recommend that you order KARA-AGE at IZAKAYA if you're visiting Japan.
シンプルな日本の唐揚げって意外に海外で見かけない。フライドチキンとも違う唐揚げは代表的日本料理だと主張してもいいのではないかしらん。近所にある「日本亭」というほか弁の名物唐揚げ弁当は「名物」というだけあってすごいです。写真のような大ボリュームで税込み500円。女性なら食事2回分になるかも。しかもジューシーでおいしいんです。外国からいらっしゃる方には居酒屋で唐揚げを注文することをぜひお勧めしたい。
